Would you move to a new server if one existed, that cared more about the community, a working ranking system, etc?
Do you think it would do the community good or bad? Make your arguments as to why.

Depends who is running it and what their ideas would be about spreading the word so we don't have people logging on mariusnet seeing no one is there and thinking Myth 2 is completely dead.
also what would the "ect" include? I don't care about rank enough for that to motivate me to move servers unless the masses started jumping ship.

Terrible idea, no reason to split the userbase. And who cares about ranking anyway.

there is absolutely no need for a new server unless PPE throws in the towel. Mnet is a good place if you aren't a *cruisering* idiot 100% of the time. Players like Kirk, Pogue, etc deserve every ban they get because they insist on acting like retards. They could easily just keep their mouths shut like the rest of us and get along just fine, but they don't. That's their choice.

Some PMA admins. *cough* also what would the "ect" include? I don't care about rank enough for that to motivate me to move servers unless the masses started jumping ship. Since Bungie stripped out their ranking system from the metaserver code, it's pretty much up to the new owners to devise their own scoring system. It's also possible to create new "mini" systems for tournaments, so stat tracking/points can be enabled for tournaments such as MWC, with their own point/reward system. And of course, we are talking a full-fledged community server, with a website, forums, tournament hosting, etc, etc. What are some features that you'd like to see or have always wanted? Keep in mind that whatever the Myth client cannot currently support would have to be done via dot commands. For example, to show your MWC stats, there is no tick box within your stats to switch between scoring systems. So in order to see this info in your profile, you'd need to execute a dot command ".statmode mwc2013". Even if this server does not become a competitor to Mariusnet (which is fine, the community should decide where they want to play!), I'd like to have some kind of contingency server pre-compiled, that isn't dependent on the mariusnet framework/pre-built code.

Ya.... Lets just kill the myth community and make another server. PPES server has been reliable forever... that is all that really matters.

There really is no need for another server. Marius is reliable , I have never seen it go down once. Do people really care about ranked games anymore? So long as Marius can let people play and chat in the lobby it is fine.

NO.
Every time the server has changed userbase has shrunk considerably.
Mnet has been going steady for what, 9 years now? And PPE hasn't ever asked for a cent... he has in fact turned DOWN offers for monetary assistance. A cool guy. If anything the admins are hella tolerant. I have nothing against you Kirk but you woulda been permabanned from b.net in the blink of an eye.

Every time the server has changed userbase has shrunk considerably. Exactly. There'd be so many occassional's that would have no clue where the server went, and would just not bother looking. Same thing that happened when b.net died, same thing that happened when pm.net died...

I have nothing against you Kirk but you woulda been permabanned from b.net in the blink of an eye. I'm not Kirk. And FYI, I have nothing against M.Net. However, since coming back to the scene, I've heard many complaints about M.net, and can see that certain things are broken, with no indication of it being fixed. While I am grateful to PPE, Marius, Connor, etc for hosting Mariusnet, it does not look good when orders are broken, stats do not work fully, and there is a lack of order when it comes to dummying and whatnot. Just that with my previous experience in regards to PlayMyth, combined with what I've heard, I was entertaining the idea of bringing a new server online. That said, all negative remarks are spoken louder than positive. In general, people will only speak up if they have an issue, and they won't if they have a positive outlook. So I wanted to hear both sides, but even though there are a number of votes for "YES" here, no one has really said why they want a new server. In the end, the community should decide what they want.

and how do you propose to control dummying, hmm?

and how do you propose to control dummying, hmm? You can never completely stop it. PlayMyth had a tolerable system in place, but it didn't stop it from happening. A combination of active enforcement, smart code (either metaserver or web application side), and a no-nonsense policy towards it would help. Instead of perma-banning which shrinks the community, perhaps something like a permanent IP-based reset. So if you're caught dummying for points, you'll have a time-based "timeout" for your stats across all of your accounts. This isn't perfect, but might be enough to encourage people NOT to dummy. However, I realize with such a small user base, it might not be feasible to be proactive about this stuff. People do want a good, competitive ranking system; but that comes at a cost of active policing, no-nonsense rules, and restrictions. All of these take time and effort on people's part. Suggestions are welcome too. Maybe they'll be noticed by MNet admins!

mnet will continue to operate as they always have, no matter what people suggest. they don't care if there are 2 players or 200 players.
