Note that I am not suggesting what the new limit would be.
In the event that this change were feasible, would you like to see it implemented?
Discuss.

that would be cool if you could even get a 16 player game

Only benefit I see is being able to have a full 8v8 match with a neutral host

we could just make maps with more units to accomodate for bigger games.
MWC could be like 3 matches with 2 really huge teams

I can't think of any real downside to this, and it'd be cool to see giant games, so WHY NOT?

Requires changes to the metaserver - i.e. a new metaserver. So see that other thread that you all voted "No" to Even with those changes such a thing might require a clean break with older version compatibility (i.e. you definitely can't have someone on 1.7.2 in that game, or potentially even in the same metaserver room). With a clean break and a new metaserver it's not very hard to do, but it's not going to happen on mariusnet. Note that my plans to add "unlimited" external observers who are not actually "in the game" should mitigate this somewhat (but again, requires a new metaserver) regardless. How many of you are actually looking for >16 players *actually playing* at once vs. just observing?

This is absolutely *cruisering* stupid. People need to learn how to use their units and feel comfortable doing it.

I dunno about y'all, but I'd love me some 24 player trow terries ::rolls eyes:: Sad thing is some dumb *cruiser* would host that.

I think one potential use that hasn't been recognized yet in this thread is the possibility of playing very large maps featuring expanded unit sets. It would essentially unpack and elaborate the strategic component of Myth which may be of some interest.
There is no reason to assume that an increased player limit would be used exclusively with standard Bungie maps.

One very interesting variation would be huge ffa's with uncampable spawns for deathmatch play.
Why do we absolutely need a new metaserver for this? Could we not simply host it tcp?

I dont see any downside to the idea. I used to wish for ages you could have more than 16 player max. The sad thing is I think I've seen one full player 16 game (besides a tourney game) in the last 4 months. and that game was just before a mwc match so people wanted a warmup game or 2. Id sooner there was actually some decent 16 player 2 team games on myth at all anytime soon than lift the player cap since we arent even seeing full games ever as it is.
