Semi-Finals Recap:
Today, Sunday April 29th 2012 the remaining four teams squared off and cut their numbers down to two. While two of the remaining teams had no playoff match losses 'prepared' to play the top bracket match, the COON Brothers Inc and the underdog The Band of Ratty's Rambunctous Rebels (R3).
the two teams squaring off in the bottom bracket semi finals, the DEER herd and the 47 Ronin had already faced a defeat, DEER at the hands of the COON Bros in DE2, and 47 at the hands of DEER in DE1.
The stakes were high for all teams as any of them could face possible elimination within the round. 47 ended up sweeping deer in a vengeful movement and looked forward to their bottom bracket "winner-goes-to-the-final-match". But then the unthinkable in care happened in 2012, adding another page to the history of myth (and perhaps making this tournament completely worth while).
So any way, we'll look at the spotlight match of the week, which was the Top Bracket finals. This match was plagued with some of the most immature and outright hilarious rage and butthurt attitudes since teams like the Hoho Goldfish Fanclub, starring Liger, Kirk and TB, or even cops starring ryan and the infamous AssassinX aka Cod Gops himself.
I received a total of 7 films in the zip package, so we'll go through each one. To put these teams in perspective, here are my Power Ranking predictions from Mar 22nd after the first week of play as well as Zaknafein's Power Rankings from Apr 23rd, who participated in the match itself.
R3 - (5th Seed QR Ranking)
My #5.
The Band-R3
R3 were able to take some games against COONs last weekend, albiet surprisingly. If they are able to sweep deer this weekend you'll most likely see them move on following the QRs.
Zak's #3Band of the Red Ratty Rebel Hands ®3: They have drastically improved from their 0 win, 3 loss QR performance. Beating an undermanned Mental Breakdown, and barely scraping by against NotLH is a drastic improvement! The loss of Cruniac does not bode well for them though, considering they still lost against the Coon Bros even with him in their ranks. They still aren't as good as ~Deer~, unfortunately, who beat ®3 in the QR, and managed to take 4 games away from 47 ronin as well as mental breakdown. Their previous gambit of having Pallidice neutral host while providing them with our planning time strats over ventrilo, will not work this time, so I predict a 5-0 loss to Coon Bros, followed by a victory over ~Deer~, then another loss to Coon Bros.
CBI - (2nd Seed QR Ranking)
My #3.
Coon BROS
Two losses against The Band does not bode well for this team. Their match this weekend is against mental breakdown, which will be their toughest match for the QRs. The results of this weekend should prove to be interesting.
Zak's #1.
Coon Bros: Unexpected, undefeated, unstoppable juggernaut of the tournament, easily compared to Armageddon, BME, Northern Paladins, Civil, or more recently the NC/Bullz. Starring Pogue, the stupid one. Krok, the heavy hittur. Golem, the shy one. Professional Killer, the guy with the funny foreign accent. Argos, the cannon fodder. Hadiez, the cute one. RZA, the brains of the outfit. Kilg, our chem-addicted captain. Also Zak, undefeated in 1v1 mapmaking competitions, retired Adrenaline in 1v1 combat, and is a general wild card in any myth match. Most tournaments are decided before they even begin, and in TWS, Coon Bros are the victors. I predict 5-0 victory over ®3.
Film 1 : Winter Series (TROW WITH SNOW) - Territories
this was a lag test which was included in the films for whatever reason. here's a picture of me waking up on top of a mountain.
Film 2 : Winter Series (TROW WITH SNOW) - Territories
So this game begins with the COONS accusing a man dubbed "BLITZKREIG" of being a dummy account and not allowed to get units. Sometime later on I recall hearing "they were using a dummy account so the game didn't count".
after little investigation one can find the game log for that game on marius, with 'yousaf100', aka falcon, the web designer and alleged "conspiring" TO of The Winter Series 3, who has been on R3 since the beginning of the tournament.
The game is fairly close through the first 5 minutes of play, but R3 begins to start gaining ground in remaining percentage due to having about 3 (or more; disputable) brain advantage in the game.
kirk and ratking square off in the north, which ends in r3 gaining both north flags and kirk earning the most damage given, most damage recieved and most losses in the game. gekko and ratking tie with the game high of units killed at 14 a piece, but gekko is unable to hold either south flag against the wrath of hadiez. both mid flags are split, and perm ends with a 1.00 R3 taking the win. This game will set the mood for the rest of the game, observers should especially note this if they have never been in a TROW TERRIES game where kilg/kirk lose.
Film 3 : 2x2 Allies - Great Divide - Assassin
This screenshot is self explanatory:
The r3 teams start on the northern part of the map, while the COON teams start on the south. Ratty's personal squad comes equipped with cremisi, falcon and valentine and is way more aggressive than any other squad in the first 7 minutes, while every other squad has 2 players and mostly shadow. however, as the COON southwest squad (Kilg/Zak) take advantage of the 4 man team's aggressiveness, Gekko breaks away from Kirk's watch without mention and heads straight towards the COON STATUE. A lack of communication and scouting (i.e. BIA3 Syndrome) results in Zak keeping his word that he would show everyone that he was really a 2 baller all along.
However, Gekko's reign of terror isn't over yet. He proceeds to show everyone why he has a 5 ball rating in this tournament, and would perhaps deserve that rating more than other rated 5 ballers by pulling a Wayne Rooney reminiscent of Cave in MWC04, Greek Gods vs Ghetto Cakes, bottle pussing the bulk of COON's defensive melee to end the game and take the second COON STATUE.
[historical note for modern day myth comparisons: Greek Gods needed the statue for the win with less than a minute left, and the points won the match.]
You could say that r3 had already won the match at this point because COON BROS was demoralized, but they are still in need of one more win so I'll keep it quick and concise from here on out.
Film 4: Caer Dark - Stampede
This film only contains kilg saying "LOL", I'm guessing because Kirk had booted Ksaize (who's quite the threat) for the Nth time.
Film 5: Caer Dark - Stampede
So I take it Caer didn't get played. Whatever, stampede sucks anyway when all you know how to do is BC.
Film 6: Acts of Cruelty - Flag Rally
so this is how the game begins
a brief synopsis, kilg gets destroyed by muse in the south east, zak gets raped by ratking mid, and krok/hadiez spend their time "defending" a flag r3 already tagged. i guess krok got trolled by his own team's trolling and never got the memo they were throwing the match away.
Film 7: A Poison Holiday - CTF
so i guess ksaize is still getting booted at this point but r3 continues to man up and play. they end up losing a game, and to put it into comparison it would have been worth minimal points (4) for CTF victory(4 pts for win, +1 pt for each 20% remaining) in a grim-point-system tournament with a win with less than 20% of units remaining.
Here's some pre-game and post-game chat:
So now we come to the decision making process.
Game 1: - Perm states R3 as the victor.
Game 2: - Perm states R3 as the victor.
Game 3: - *LOL*
Game 4: - Perm states R3 as the victor. R3 could have left the match at this point.
Game 5: - Perm states COON as the victor.
Final score : 3-1
And so the 2nd Seeded COONs are banished to the bottom bracket by the hand of the 5th Seed band of R3 and still have the possibility of playing them in the finals as it was their first elimination at the time. Or had, before they refused to play 47 at fallback for the Bottom Bracket Finals while in denial of having lost their match when they were "Undefeated".
Hadiez, who was the only player still willing to play for COONs had this to say:
