I'd just like to say that out of all my heartbreaking tournament losses, WTC vs. CKCCSRSSRS (?) was probably the only one I'm really bitter about.
That year, I was captaining probably the best team of random-ass untapped talent I'd ever assembled. And, for whatever reasons, with a couple exceptions, we meshed really, really well. EvilJake never had a clue where to go, but just point him in the right direction and he'd get ape-like ratios. T3n couldn't speak a word of english, but could use small unitsets like a scalpel, and if not for the language/lag barrier would be one of the best players of his day.
That year I was using an early-2000's macbook that was so old and shitty that the power cable would sometimes just go out. I was playing on the couch of my first ever rented apartment, on a TOUCHPAD, and yet I knew if I just gave out units and yelled at the right people, we would win.
The first two games were FR Hvergelmir light. We split 1-1, the first losing a conventional pus fight, the second going pussless, and cheese-tagging all 8 of their flags before they even got one of ours.
The third was the infamous BC mjilaphobia, perhaps the only (?) time BC has successfully been played in an MWC. Clank and limp had been bitching constantly about how it was going to be a huge campfest, so it was eminently satisfying to surround and fetch/soul them to death, with WTC going up 2-1. At the end of game 3, we're about to win and head to game 4 (CTF Calm), where a split heron archerless spread (with lots of yelling) was going to result in either a lot of easy rushes or an easy flag capture for a sure victory.
And then...
BANG, the *cruisering* cable had unplugged. My battery was dead. There was no way I could hold it in AND captain game 4, so I handed the reins to BK. A little overwhelmed and underconfident, he settled for a generic (at the time, which meant arcs) trade and grouped herons, leading into a standard fight, which we lost. 2-2, ahead by a point.
And then, in one of my deepest regrets, I opted for a non-attacking strategy on ASS Shattered Earth (the 9 spread out pumpkin targets on the light map), thinking we could somehow outcamp them. WTC might've had our strongpoints, but we weren't a team filled with well-rounded players, and trying a "watch all passageways" strat failed miserably.
We were the better team at the time, even if no one but us knew it. Oh well.
I didn't even get a new computer for the next mwc with mental, though I did get that power component fixed. A lot of people have accused me over the years of "playing gametypes" instead of relying on straight-up fights. Well, DUH. That habit clearly evolved from my touchpad years. How do you expect me to win games if I can't win a straight up fight?
