Sam, the "double click selects by monster type" setting is for selecting your own units, not for selecting targets. If you had different units that look similar, like a regular bowman and a modified bowman that uses a different "monster" tag and you double click on one it would select both types unless that setting was enabled.
Ok I see thanks Pyro. I thought if was for selecting groups of the same enemies, to work with shift click select group.
