Myth Power Rankings 2012 edition week 2
Not doing as much film review as QR1, I caught a cold plus I’m lazy. Paris would agree . This ranking is more of my musings of why teams are ranked where they are then any game film that I have watched.
1. South Park – This is simple to justify. They are the defending *cruisering* champions and have yet to lose a match. I don’t care who they field or how close their matches are. Until they lose a match they stay in the #1 ranking. It’s that simple. You are the champion until someone proves otherwise. Defeated Deer 4-1. Teams like this shouldn’t lose any games to deer. It’s hard to keep up your edge when you know going through the motions is good enough, although they will need there edge this weekend against T-cox. This should shape up to be the best match of the QR, and will go a long way in both defining SP and T-cox.
2. My team brought to you by Grim – They are here because they are fielding a large team and are active at the moment. A slight concern is that Tirri did not play in week two, not sure if that’s just a one week hiccup or something to worry about. They just don’t have any weak links. If they ended up playing NC 7-5, I have to think that My team (please no bad jokes about this not being your team Gamer, it’s My team) wins that match. And as of right now, that seems like how the match shakes out. My team vanquished Ageha 5-0 as they should have. They play the Silent Sentinels next which should be another very good match for QR3.
3. Name Changers – Call me a skeptic, I’m just not convinced about their care factor. Their core players are as solid as it gets, but they just don’t have those active/skill players to compliment them. I don’t see (fill NC role player name here) defeating two My team role players on a flank. We can argue semantics over who’s core is better: Shai/Adren/ska/Limp/Sam vs Tirri/Arze/Rabican/Gekko/Grim, but to me there is no clear cut advantage there. So, it will come down to the role players. I just see My teams’ role players as better and more active. Not by a huge margin, but enough to be a difference. Defeated an O.K. Time Wizards team 5-0, they’ve been getting frisky on the forums about rat’s ranking of them, but I’m not sure if they should be using that win as justification for the top spot. It was a decent win, just not something that changes the status quo. NC play’s Gru next week, looks like they will go into DE undefeated. Can’t wait till those forum rants make my eyes bleed
4. Thundercox – I’m not really sure what to make of T-cox. I don’t think they are on par with the top three teams, yet I’m not sure they can be lumped in with SS and R3. I guess they are kind of the bouncer to the party. You need to get through them to show that you have arrived. They handled both Time wizards and Gru fairly easily. They play South Park next week, which should be a competitive match, but will most likely fall 1-4 or 2-3 to the stronger rostered SP team.
5. Dragon Army (R3) – It’s all about winning. And at the end of the day, R3 defeated TSS. Rat already did a slightly self-absorbed review of this epic match, so I’m going to stay away from the particulars of the match. They’ve had a tough couple of first matches, which should only makes them more prepared for the DE. I could definitely see them taking a match from T-cox, but I truly doubt they could beat any of the top three seeded teams. I really think Rat is taking a team that isn’t so hot on paper and turning them into a contender. They get a bit of a reprieve from there hectic schedule and play Ageha next week. Good job R3.
6. The Silent Sentinels (TSS) – They picked up a couple of heavy hitters in which should have been a good week for TSS, but somehow managed to get beat by what looked like a lesser opponent in R3. I know a lot of people are pointing fingers at Jotun for losing his fetch, but a match of five games is never as simple as one series of events. Honkey, after a good first week, seems to be trying to do too much as a capt and hvy hitter. Honkey needs to be freer to direct battle field traffic, as opposed to getting caught up in tunnel vision. This team has the players to make a deep run, but they need to get their team roles ironed out. Tough loss vs R3, they will have to get things together quick as they play MyTeam next week. Next week should be a very good test to show the disparity between Tier 1 and Tier 2 teams.
7. Time Wizards – Time wizards are in a Tier just below R3 & TSS. I would love to see a match between TW and R3 orTSS to see how much of a difference there is. TW’s are a competent team; they just lack fire power of any sort. Lost to NC 5-0. Play deer next week. That match is my under the radar match of the week.
8. AGEHA – See Time Wizards but with less coordination. Play R3 next week. See QR1 TSS match for time travel like early results.
9. Team Deer – The only change in the power rankings is right here. Team Deer has moved up a spot and are no longer the worst team in this tournament. And, they actually took a game from mighty South Park. See guys. This is just like American Football, ANY GIVEN SUNDAY. They were in last place last weekend due more to a lack of participation from their team than anything else. They showed up in force against South Park. This is a team that really has a couple of good players and could give team’s like R3 and TSS a run for their money if they have a full squad. Really curious of the outcome of next week’s deer vs Time Wizards match.
10. Gimble R Us – They are a train wreck. They delayed the match with T-cox saying; “they are waiting for someone”, when really they just wanted to get a few more strat practice games in. The problem is not the strat GrU, the true problem for your team is: your inability to read and react to anything going on in the game. It’s like each player is in their own little tunnel vision world with no regard to anything else happening around them. Gru, you guys really need to take a step back, look around, and see WTF is going on. Until you start doing that, no strat in the world will save you, because the other team has already evolved passed anything you planned to do at the beginning. Play NC next week. I don’t encourage dummying, but it would be funny to see Gru win a few games next week.
