Private Sector Not “Doing Fine” Under ObamaCare
At a press conference on Friday, President Obama claimed “the private sector is doing fine.” But after 40 months of unemployment above 8 percent, it’s clear “the president’s policies are standing in the way of a stronger economy,” says Rep. Erik Paulsen (R-MN) in the Weekly Republican Address. And “his health care law may well be the worst offender, driving up costs and making it harder for small businesses to hire workers.”

FOCUSED ON JOBS: Speaker Boehner, a former small businessman, said the private sector under President Obama is clearly not well. SUPREME COURT DECISION: Most Americans want the Supreme Court to overturn all or part of ObamaCare, which is raising costs and making it harder for small businesses to hire. “Unless the Supreme Court throws out the entire law,” says Speaker Boehner, “we need to repeal what’s left of it.”
STUDENT LOANS: Senate Democrats haven’t passed a responsible plan to extend current rates on student loans either. And with more than half of recent college graduates jobless or underemployed, the White House continues to ignore a bipartisan Republican proposal to stop student loan rates from doubling on July 1.
STOPPING TAX HIKES: Speaker Boehner said the House will vote next month to “extend all of the current tax rates for a year.” This will stop a massive tax hike on small businesses and give the House time to craft a simpler, pro-growth tax code for families and job creators. President Obama, meanwhile, is increasingly isolated in his pursuit of small business tax hikes.
OPEN HOUSE: On Friday, the House passed legislation moving forward on providing “bulk” access to legislative information – a big step toward keeping the Pledge to America for a more open and transparent Congress.
FAST & FURIOUS: New documents obtained by the House Oversight & Government Reform Committee show top Justice Department officials knew about the ‘Fast & Furious’ operation. Speaker Boehner has said all options are on the table for holding accountable those responsible for the operation.
EXCESSIVE REGULATIONS: Obama administration officials were a no-show at a recent hearing on how their policies threaten jobs and American energy production. Experts testified that the administration’s regulations are creating uncertainty that translates “into higher risks in borrowing, less investment, lost jobs and slower growth throughout the U.S. economy.”
WHITE HOUSE TRADES POLICY FOR PR: Speaker Boehner says a new memo from the House Energy & Commerce Committee shows “the White House traded billions of dollars in policy concessions to PhRMA [the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America] for millions of dollars worth of” pro-ObamaCare advertising.
