Sometimes I don't recognize drama before it's too late, but I know some of you love it!
tl;dr warning
Anyway, let's go public with this because it's only mildly amusing to me but I expect some serious drama from at least a few of you, so don't let me down:
After 20+ games played in 3 years, with half of them theater with kirk or coop with newbs, it should've been obvious where my Myth state of mind was when Homer recruited me 2 weeks ago. Seeing some of the roster, despite my complete out-of-touchness re:current skill levels, confirmed Homer's word that this wasn't a 'serious' team despite Paris being on it (no offense to fellow placeholders still there).
My first mistake was thinking Homer was in charge. My last mwc team (09?) had a good chance until Paris foolishly dummied in a meaningless match only to get suspended for the next match, which was far more crucial. Care or don't care, but don't be a hypocrit twice when in either paradigm. I predicted and credited Paris' leadership for A, but his style just does not jibe with me at all. I imagine my lack of effort could be equally frustrating for him.
That could've been acceptable had the second issue, the 'not caring' part, remained true, but of course it's not. I'm not entirely sure why they would've recrutied me. My activity and care -- and commensurate contributable goods -- isn't a tenth of theirs. When I saw Rodeki11 putting his team together, I assumed Toxyn was either just an afk-hopeful-but-placeholder or an outright dummy. When I learned he was actually playing, I almost bailed then since he's a bro from way back and one of the very few people I'd actually hang out with.
Beyond those two strikes are three lesser ones. My role, even had I stayed, was going to be diametrically altered at the worst time. I told them that if they had any plans on relying on me as a captain, I should test that out during QR in preparation for DE since even in my waning tryhard years I could barely muster the strength to type orders to counter the stupidity of my team. With GKG planning on skipping QR, I'd guess he'd captain DE. This doesn't bother me in the least, but if my role is to be 'not captain', I'd like that luxury in the QR as well. I don't begrudge the position to anyone.
The second minor strike is EW coming over. He's a good guy. From his TA of me in 07, after being on a decent team with him in 06, I got the sense he felt betrayed or at least confused why I would leave a good thing. At the time (06), it was pretty obvious Raz was trying to groom EW to take over the leadership aspect as he was easily the most caring. I called him Raz Jr, but Raz's Echo would've been more accurate. That might sound harsh but it's not, and anyone around then would agree. Maybe EW would say so himself, but he doesn't care for the Top Dog role even though he could've had it then. Like Adrenaline, he is driven to be good at this game, wasted though it is with few to witness and fewer to judge. I imagine his mantra is, "If you can't help me win games, I have no use for you." Despite his usually calm demeanor, I've seen him flip out at the most unlikely/undeserving targets in the most inappropriate situations, like a 'roid rage. That said, if you want to win and have an established leader already, this is the best kind of teammate.
The third minor strike was hearing that Nemesis was also coming on board. I realize the utility of having good clickers on a team, and certainly others have managed to utilize his skills, but for me he's the equivalent of a black QB: tremendous athleticism that gets him past most of the competition, but just too stupid to understand anything more complex than "Grok smash!". After his whinefest on ABS that put even the normally laid-back Chron into stfu-mode, Nem's one of only two players I refuse to be on a team with.
After EW told me last night in a game, publicly not because he's a dick but because he knows I wouldn't care, that I was booted, I actually felt relieved and almost immediately pm'd RK to add me. I also felt a little ashamed at not having bailed at the first hint of impending shittiness. Paris also pm'd me today, saying "thanks for the heads up". EW, not Paris, tells me I'm off the team. Why would Paris expect direct communication from me? Also, I imagine he was trying to act hurt because he wasn't actually able to get Nem to captain until GKG shows up, which is hilariously karmic. I do think Paris is capable of manipulating Nem, so this might only be a temporary separation.
This is all news to me. I"VE BEEN CUT OUT OF THE LOOP WHERE PLAYERS ARE JUST BOOTED RANDOMLY FROM OUR TEAM!!! NEM I SPLAYING FOR NC? I DON"T LIKE THIS ONE BIT, HOMER ISN"T HAPPY, HOMER"S GETTING ANGRY.
