The reason why I'm reposting this is because Bronson/Flick2 get the dumbassery sticker of the days for deciding to dump a good 13 player myth game to go play a 5 man coop game, destroying the game for today in the process.
Way to keep the game alive, guys!
If you are hosting a myth2 game, it is within yours and everybody elses interest to make the game grow. This means you want to keep the host open for 16 players.
You don't get 16 players instantly probably, so start small and patiently wait it to grow. Things you need to do to make it grow are the following.
You host a small 2 team map. You don't start with desert ot trow, you start with pg, venice, kg or float etc. You keep this up untill you have 10 players or so. Then you can switch to clash lmoth or DE lmoth and stuff like that. Possibly fr or terries already if you have quality players, which you most likely don't.
Once you've reached 10 players, the game will get immensly more popular as people stop by at mariusnet to check for games. Now you're bound to get 16 players if you don't *cruiser* it up.
Once you got 14-16 players. You can certainly already play bigger and more complicated maps, like cracks Fr or trow terries.
Once you have done a few of those, you can assess the situation and switch to plugins if you have people who have plugins. Continue doing those for as long as you wish.
This big and good two team game will keep on going for a long long time as people keep stopping by to check games. The people in the game will change, but the game itself will exist if you let it.
---> that's the formula for good games at Myth2.
Ways to fail at achieving a game like this:
a) You switch to big games too early
b) You switch to plugins too early.
c) You switch to desert fr too early with the game being populated by players like edulus and zbik too early.
d) You start your games two seconds after the previous one ended. Give it a min so people can actually join.
e) You wait too long in between games. For some reason every 2 minutes waited between games or one host dump will make you lose a player.
f) YOU *cruisering* TEAM UP.
It's an absolute MUST that you maintain the random captain rotation to ensure fairness. Sure you might get crap captains sometimes, but it's better than team stacking. Y'see, every time someone joins someone you get two to three others who join in as well. I currently enjoy a game of liger/ksiaze vs 4 name changers. *cruiser* yeah.
When the game is fair and random people will enjoy it more and the game keeps on on going.
When there is a huge game going, this same thing will happen on a daily basis when people know a game like that will be there when they log on. This will make people want to continue playing the game in general and we have more players. This is what we all want. Ok?
Now here is why I protest people hosting ffa games:
In order to have a nice and fair ffa game, you need to keep it small, 4-6 players. When you got 8 people or more, some people will form teams and some will not. This immediately fucks up the game. It's the same thing even with 16 players. Some have bigger teams and clear advantage. Hence ffa will suck in any case.
Ffa is also tremendously less appealing game choise in general than a big two team game, which is the grain of salt of this game. When people log on and only see some shitty ffa game present, they will leave or go afk and don't feel like playing. The game won't last.
Whenever you host an ffa game, you retire a myther. Think about that.
*2012 addentum: Whenever you host a coop game, you retire a myther (specially when you dump a good game in order to do that).
